SUBJECT: IFAS; Guidelines for Establishment of the IFAS Tenure, Permanent
Status, and Promotion Committee and Composition of the IFAS Tenure, Permanent
Status, and Promotion Committee
- Guidelines for Establishment of the IFAS Tenure, Permanent Status, and
Promotion Committee:
- According to UF Regulation 6C1-7.019:
The Senior Vice President for Agriculture and Natural Resources convenes
annually a committee comprised of tenured faculty members holding the
rank of full professor or above and permanent status faculty members
holding the rank of Agent IV or above who provide a representative cross
section of the total faculty in the Institute of Food and Agricultural
Sciences (IFAS). One-half of the committee is appointed by the Senior
Vice President for Agriculture and Natural Resources and one-half
elected by the tenured and permanent status faculty members of IFAS. The
committee serves in a fact-finding and consultative role to the IFAS
deans, pursuant to Rule 6C1-7.019(6)(b)2 and (6)(c)2, and the Senior
Vice President for Agriculture and Natural Resources concerning
nominations for tenure, promotion and permanent status.
- According to UF Regulation 6C1-7.019:
There is to be a College Tenure and Promotion Committee in each college
to conduct the college level review of tenure, permanent status, and
promotion materials.
- Role of the College Tenure, Permanent Status, and Promotion
Committee, per UF Regulation 6C1-7.019:
- Review the nominations for tenure, permanent status, and
promotion and provide recorded individual assessments to the deans
as part of its college level fact-finding and consultative role.
- An individual assessment shall consist of a committee member=s
indication whether the candidate meets the standards for tenure
within IFAS. The individual faculty members making the assessments
shall not be identified.
- Composition of the IFAS Tenure, Permanent Status, and Promotion
Committee:
- Tenured faculty members holding the rank of professor or above and
permanent status faculty members holding the rank of Extension Agent IV.
- The IFAS Tenure, Permanent Status, and Promotion Committee will have
ten (10) members. The composition of the committee will be determined as
follows:
- Five elected by IFAS faculty members with tenure or permanent
status as follows:
- Two county faculty members
- One state faculty member located at a Research and Education
Center
- Two state faculty members located in Gainesville
- Five appointed by the IFAS Senior Vice President as follows:
- One county faculty member
- One state faculty member located at a Research and Education
Center
- Two state faculty members located in Gainesville
- One at-large faculty member
- Members shall not hold administrative titles.
- The composition of the committee shall be representative of IFAS
faculty demographics and disciplines.
- Membership term will be July 1 through June 30.
- Members of the committee will serve a one-year term, with reelection
and reappointment possible. Members of the committee may not serve more
than two years total.
- The IFAS Faculty Council (FC) will manage the nomination and voting
processes for the elected members of the committee. Elections will occur
in the Spring prior to the end of the Spring semester. The FC will
forward names of elected committee members to the Senior Vice President
by June 1. The Senior Vice President will send each committee member a
notice of appointment by June 15. Members of the most recent IFAS
Tenure, Permanent Status, and Promotion Committee also will serve as the
IFAS Tenure and Permanent Status Progress Assessment Committee.
