Internal Management Memoranda
EFFECTIVE DATE: December 18, 2007
INTERNAL MANAGEMENT MEMORANDUM NUMBER: 6C1-6.60-8
SUBJECT: IFAS Facility Fund Raising and Naming Policy
- Facility Fund Raising
- All private gift solicitations and fund raising initiatives for
construction of any new IFAS facility or existing facility renovation may
only be conducted for approved building and facility projects. The
proposed project must be approved in writing by the Senior Vice President
for Agriculture and Natural Resources.
- The project initiator must first complete and submit a “FACILITY
PRIVATE FUND RAISING REQUEST” form (Form-FFR)
and obtain the approval and signature of the appropriate Unit Leader. The
form must then be sent to the IFAS Development Office for processing with
the Chair of IFAS Deans and Senior Vice-President for Agriculture and
Natural Resources.
- IFAS Facilities Planning and Operations (FPO) will not be authorized to
prepare any building diagrams, renderings, or detailed plans, nor will the
IFAS Development Office be authorized to initiate a fund raising effort for
any IFAS new facility or renovation project before completion of a
Form-FFR.
Preliminary costs estimate information must be obtained from FPO.
- Facility/Building Naming
- All proposed naming recognition opportunities for new or renovated
IFAS facilities, including sub-components thereof, must be approved in
accordance with the University of Florida Foundation Naming Gift Policies.
Naming opportunities are defined as the permanent naming for an individual
(living or deceased) or entity of an entire building or component space
within or adjacent to a building. The policy naming guidelines are as
follows:
- The naming of any building (new or existing) as a result of a private
gift must be approved by the following:
- the Senior Vice President for Agriculture and Natural Resources
- the Vice-President for Development and Alumni Affairs.
- the President of the University of Florida.
- the University of Florida Board of Trustees.
- Naming a portion of a building: The naming of a portion of a
building (e.g., a classroom, auditorium or non-academic center), as a
result of a private gift, must be approved by the following:
- the Senior Vice President for Agriculture and Natural Resources
- the Vice President for Development and Alumni Affairs, and
- the University of Florida President
- When the naming opportunity concerns construction of a new
building or renovation of an existing building, a donor will generally
be required to provide fifty percent (50%) of the building or
renovation cost.
- Consideration may be given to naming an existing building for an
endowment gift equal to half the replacement cost of the facility.
Such naming must comply with the procedures set forth above.
In all cases, the proposed naming opportunity must be presented in
writing to the IFAS Development Office, which will coordinate the
naming approval process with the Office of Senior Vice President for
Agriculture and Natural Resources and other University officials.
Proposed naming opportunities will only be processed for consideration
for facility projects which have been previously approved by the
Senior Vice President for Agriculture and Natural Resources. The
proposed donor honoree name must be approved by the appropriate
University officials prior to any discussion with the proposed
donor prospect.
